Privacy Policy
We collect what we need to make Second Summer useful — your quiz answers, your email if you ask for results, any message you send us, and basic device data. We don’t sell your personal information for money, and we never send your specific quiz answers — like your budget or healthcare preferences — to advertising tools. When our Google or Meta ad tools are active, some browser data is used to measure our ads, which California law calls “sharing,” and you can opt out anytime on our Do Not Sell or Share page or with a Global Privacy Control signal, which we honor automatically.
1 · What we collect — our Notice at Collection
This section is our Notice at Collection: what we gather, where it comes from, why, whether it’s shared, and how long we keep it.
Information you give us — your email, your name if you contact us, your quiz answers (things like budget range, timing, household, visa readiness, and healthcare or lifestyle preferences), and any message you send. If you choose to leave your mobile number, we collect that too, along with your separate yes-or-no choice about text messages — the number is always optional, and leaving it blank changes nothing. If you open a file at our Visa Desk, we also collect what you put in it: target country, who’s moving, what will fund the move, an income range, citizenship status, and timeline. Please don’t send sensitive details like Social Security or passport numbers, financial-account numbers, or medical records through our forms — we don’t need them.
Information we create from your quiz — your shortlist, match profile, a broad interest bucket, and similar inferences we use to tailor the guide.
Information collected automatically — IP address, browser and device details, pages viewed, the referring page or ad, approximate (city-level) location, cookies, and a first-party session ID.
Where it comes from — you, your browser, and, if you arrive from an ad, our advertising and analytics tools. We don’t buy retirement leads from data brokers.
2 · The categories, in plain English
The personal information we collect falls into these categories:
- Contact details — email, your mobile number if you choose to give it (together with your separate texting choice), your name if you contact us, and your message.
- Quiz & preference answers — budget range, timing, household, visa readiness, healthcare or lifestyle preferences, and your Visa Desk answers if you open a file (target country, household, funding sources, income range, citizenship status, timeline).
- Internet & device information — IP address, browser and device, pages viewed, referring URL, ad-click identifiers, and cookies.
- Approximate location — city or region inferred from your IP address. We never collect precise GPS location.
- Inferences — the shortlist matches and interests we draw from your quiz.
- Sensitive-adjacent answers — your healthcare preferences, your budget range, and — if you open a Visa Desk file — your income range and citizenship status. We use these only to build the guide you asked for and to arrange the introductions you’ve asked for — never to target ads, and never to decide your eligibility for anything.
We don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 18, or knowingly sell or share information about anyone under 16.
3 · How we use it
We use your information to build and send your shortlist, tailor the guidance to your situation, reply to your messages, send the updates you ask for, keep the site secure, and understand what’s working so we can make Second Summer better — including measuring whether our ads are reaching the right people.
Our quiz is an editorial matching tool. It doesn’t make any legally significant decision about your insurance, visa, healthcare, housing, or finances — it just suggests places worth a look.
4 · Sharing, service providers & partners
We don’t sell your email, quiz answers, or messages for money — and we don’t sell property, insurance, visas, or relocation services either.
To run the site, we rely on a few service providers: Vercel (hosting), Neon (database), Resend (email), Google Fonts, and Esri (map tiles). They only handle what they need to provide their service to us.
One company, a small family of brands. Second Summer is operated by New Latitudes LLC, which also runs sister retirement brands — like The Retirement Shortlist, for retiring within the US. Your information stays inside that one company, under this same policy, and if you’ve opted in, our emails may include guidance from a sister brand where it genuinely fits your answers. One unsubscribe stops the whole family.
Your mobile number, if you gave one. We never share the number you gave us for texts — not with partners, not with advertising tools, not with anyone. It leaves us in exactly one situation: if you ask us to have a specific, named partner call or text you, we pass it to that one partner — because you asked. Reply STOP to any text and everything stops, immediately, across all our brands.
When advertising tools are active, we use Google Tag Manager, the Meta pixel, and Meta’s Conversions API to measure and improve our ads. For matching and measurement they may receive standard advertising data — your browser and device details, IP address, ad-click identifiers, a scrambled (hashed) version of your email, and a general summary of your quiz results, such as the destination you matched with. We don’t send your specific answers, like your budget figure or your healthcare preferences, and we don’t put your raw email into the browser data layer. This kind of ad-related data use may count as “sale,” “sharing,” or targeted advertising under California and other state privacy laws; you can opt out anytime on our Do Not Sell or Share page or with a Global Privacy Control signal.
Some links on our site are partner links — they carry a “Partner” mark, and a partner may pay us a referral fee if you choose them (our disclaimer explains how that works). Clicking a partner link shares nothing from your file. Your details go to a partner in exactly one situation: you asked us to connect you. Opening a file at our Visa Desk is that ask — the notice at its submit button says so plainly — and we share the file with the vetted specialist we match you to, so they can reach out, and with no one else.
A planner introduction, if you ask for one. At the end of the quiz you can ask us to introduce you to a financial planning firm in your state. If you press that button, we pass your name, email, mobile number, ZIP code, and your answers about savings, timing and current advice to one firm in your state, so it can contact you — and that firm pays us for the introduction. The notice at the button says so, and we keep a record of what you saw and what you pressed. Because money changes hands, this counts as a “sale” of personal information under California law; the Do Not Sell or Share page opts you out, and pressing “just the workspace” instead means nothing is shared at all. We never resell an introduction or send it to a second firm.
Embedded partner forms. In a few places we offer a partner’s own form directly on our page — for example, the international-moving quote form run by our partner Sirelo. The form is theirs and carries their branding: anything you type into it goes directly to that partner under their own privacy policy, and never into your Second Summer file — we only count how often the form was shown, never what was entered.
5 · Your privacy rights
Wherever you live, you can unsubscribe from any email with one click — we act on that within ten business days and keep only a suppression record so we don’t email you again.
Depending on your state, you may also have the right to know what we’ve collected, get a copy, correct it, delete it, opt out of the “sale,” “sharing,” or targeted-advertising use above, limit how we use sensitive information, and not be treated differently for exercising any of these. You can use an authorized agent, and if we ever deny a request you can appeal.
To make a request, email hello@secondsummerabroad.com — we may ask for enough detail to verify it’s really you. We answer within 45 days (with one 45-day extension only if we truly need it and tell you why). Opt-outs of sharing take effect as soon as we can, and no later than 15 business days; on this browser, the Do Not Sell or Share control and Global Privacy Control take effect right away. To appeal, reply to our decision with “Appeal” in the subject.
6 · Cookies & analytics
We use a small set of first-party cookies and local storage to remember your privacy choice, keep a pseudonymous session ID, and hold your quiz results and move preferences on this device so you can pick up where you left off — which is what makes the site work and lets us understand broad usage.
The optional advertising tools above — Google Tag Manager, the Meta pixel, and Meta’s Conversions API — only load when you haven’t opted out and aren’t sending a Global Privacy Control signal; Meta Limited Data Use is applied where it fits. Google Fonts and Esri map tiles receive ordinary technical data, like your IP address, when fonts or maps load.
7 · Security & retention
We protect your information with reasonable safeguards — HTTPS, access controls, and deliberately collecting little in the first place. No system is perfectly secure, so we keep the data set small.
We keep your quiz answers, shortlist, and waitlist details no longer than about 24 months after your last activity with us — sooner if you ask — then delete or anonymize them. We treat contact messages the same way. Basic event and session logs are kept for a shorter window, and we keep a minimal record of any opt-out or unsubscribe so we can honor it. You can ask us to delete your information anytime.
8 · Children
Second Summer is meant for adults considering retirement and isn’t directed to anyone under 18. We don’t knowingly collect information from children.
9 · Changes & contact
