No airport in Setúbal, but Lisbon (LIS) is only ~45 min away by car or train and is one of the best-connected European capitals to the US East Coast. TAP and United fly LIS-Newark nonstop (~8h35m, ~12x/week in 2026), with direct/seasonal US service also to Boston, JFK, Miami, Washington-Dulles, and Chicago. The East Coast is very doable as a one-flight trip after the short hop to the airport; the West Coast usually needs a connection.
Portugal taxes residents (>183 days or habitual home) on WORLDWIDE income at progressive rates up to ~48%, plus a solidarity surtax on top. Crucially, the famous NHR flat-10%-on-foreign-pensions regime is CLOSED to new arrivals (transitional cutoff 31 Mar 2025); its replacement (IFICI / 'NHR 2.0') targets researchers and tech, NOT pensions.
