Climate. Mediterranean, but the green 'Emerald Isle' is one of Greece's wettest spots. Summers (Jun-Aug) are hot, sunny and dry (highs ~30C/86F, heatwaves to 40C/104F, ~67% humidity); winters are mild but genuinely rainy and stormy (~10-15C/50-59F, frequent downpours, lightning). Annual rainfall tops ~1,000mm (40in), peaking in Nov-Dec; July is nearly bone-dry. Expect lush scenery — and grey, wet winter stretches.
Safety. Very safe day-to-day. Corfu has a low overall crime rate — well below most European capitals — and a tight community feel; violent crime is rare and usually involves locals rather than visitors. The main risks are seasonal petty theft in tourist crowds (Spianada Square, the Old Town, beach areas in summer) and occasional break-ins at empty holiday villas in the off-season, so a year-round-occupied or well-secured home matters. Women alone generally report feeling comfortable, including at night in Corfu Town and the populated suburbs.
