For truly world-class/complex care (advanced oncology, major cardiac), the top centers are in Nicosia (e.g. German Oncology Center in Limassol, Nicosia hospitals) ~1.5-2.5 hrs away, or patients travel abroad.

One of the Mediterranean's most established Anglophone retiree hubs. The Paphos district is ~40% non-Cypriot (2021 census), including roughly 25,000 UK nationals plus Germans, Russians, and other Europeans. Abundant English-language clubs, churches, services, and social groups — very easy to land socially without speaking Greek.
Weak for US-based families. No direct US flights; Paphos International (PFO) and nearby Larnaca (LCA) connect well across Europe (Paphos has direct service to ~14 UK cities), so reaching the US means one stop via London, Athens, Frankfurt, etc. — typically 13-16+ hours total each way. Plan on long, multi-leg trips for visits and emergencies.
Cyprus taxes residents on WORLDWIDE income, but treatment is retiree-friendly: foreign pensions are taxed at a flat 5% on amounts over EUR 5,000 (raised from EUR 3,420 in 2026), or you can elect normal progressive rates. Under the non-dom regime, dividends and most interest are exempt from the Special Defence Contribution (i.e., effectively untaxed) for up to 17 years. A US-Cyprus income tax treaty (1984, in force) exists; US Social Security is taxable only in the US under Article 24, but US citizens still file US returns (treaty saving clause). Foreign tax credits available even without a treaty.
